Chapter 2

The Slap Heard Around the Office

Veer Singh Rathore POV – A Distraction He Didn’t Expect

Sitting in his new office, Veer barely listened as another nervous candidate stuttered through their answers. He had already rejected six people since morning. All of them were either too incompetent, too submissive, or just plain stupid. His PA needed to be sharp, efficient, and fearless. Someone who wouldn’t crumble under his pressure.

Just as he was about to dismiss the man in front of him, a sharp sound cut through the air—a loud, resounding slap.

The office fell silent.

Veer’s eyes narrowed as he turned towards the glass walls. A small crowd had gathered near the reception, all eyes on the scene unfolding.

And there she was.

A short, chubby woman with fierce brown eyes stood in the middle of the commotion. Her right palm was still raised, her breathing heavy. She didn’t look guilty. She looked ready to go for round two.

The man she had slapped stood frozen, his face red, his mouth open in shock.

“What the hell—” he began, but the girl cut him off.

SHUT UP.” Her voice rang through the lobby. “How DARE you touch a child like that?!

Veer’s brows furrowed. A child?

His sharp eyes scanned the scene and found a small girl—no more than four—hiding behind her mother. The mother, who had just returned from the restroom, had already shot a glare at the man before thanking the chubby firecracker and leaving.

But the woman—she wasn’t done.

Her fiery gaze swept across the room, her lips curling in disgust. Then she turned to the receptionists, to the security, and then—to him.

The second their eyes met, Veer felt it.

That sharp, electric challenge in her gaze. She wasn’t intimidated by the silence. By him.

She took a step forward, crossing her arms, and with absolute authority questioned the entire damn company.

“Is this the standard you maintain in THE GREAT VS Industries?!”

A few gasps echoed around the room. People turned pale.

Because this girl—whoever she was—had just challenged the king in his own palace.

Veer leaned back in his chair, a slow smirk curling his lips.

"Interesting."
